Director Anthony Seraphin has over 45 years of experience dealing with treasured objects. In 1976, he saved a collection of Thomas Eakins photographs and, proving their worth, convinced Sotheby's that photography is art. Sotheby's then had their first photography auction.
Over the years, the gallery has set records for works by artists such as Paul Klee, Larry Rivers, Andy Warhol, Grace Hartigan, Roberta Matta, John Chamberlain, Max Ernst, and Wassily Kandinsky. Seraphin also handles the works of other prominent twentieth century artists such as James Brooks, Louise Nevelson, Willem de Kooning, Sam Gilliam, and Sidney Goodman.
