Seraphin Gallery proudly announces the opening of The Higher the Clouds, the Better the Weather, a solo exhibition featuring Ryan Buffington. The exhibition will run from April 10 - May 24, with an opening reception on Friday, April 10, from 6 – 8 PM.
In this exhibition, Ryan Buffington's paintings and drawings show his immense interest in his environment. With foundations of Renaissance painting and influences of contemporary artists such as Sidney Goodman, Bo Bartlett and Vincent Desiderio, Buffington's figurative paintings reveal a technical ability that captures his audience.
The artist crafts his works from life. An idea starts first in his sketchbook and develops further into a more complex composition and possibly even a painting. The paintings remain fluid in their meaning all the way up to completion. Buffington focuses more on the feeling of the painting than the actual meaning of it. He states, "The feeling of art should inspire meaning. I know how I want a work of art to feel, I want it to have power, grace, beauty, humor, etc . . . I want the work to make my heart race, I want to forget that I'm standing on the ground. I want the painting to take me away."
All of Buffington's paintings are beautifully enveloped with large wooden frames handmade by the artist. He makes the frames sturdy enough so as to protect and support the work. The artist uses different types of wood based on the image being framed and what would look best with the painting. The wood frame highlights his love for the outdoors even more so, perfectly accenting the work inside.
Ryan Buffington received a Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art and Painting from Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art in 2011 and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing from Utah Valley University in 2007. Currently he lives and works as a full-time artist in Idaho.
