Hans Johannes Siegfried Richter (/ˈrɪktər/; German: [ˈʁɪçtɐ]; 6 April 1888 – 1 February 1976) was a German Dada painter, graphic artist, avant-garde film producer, and art historian. In 1965 he authored the book Dadaism about the history of the Dada movement.
Gerhard Richter's paintings range from tens of thousands to tens of millions of dollars, with his record-setting abstract works, particularly Abstraktes Bild pieces, frequently selling for over $30 million, reaching a peak of over $46 million at auction. While major canvases command multi-million dollar figures, smaller prints or earlier works can be found for much less, even thousands or tens of thousands, depending on the size, medium (photo-painting vs. pure abstraction), and condition.
