Autograph of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882) American poet, professor and educator. Clipped autograph on paper signed "Henry W. Longfellow 1881". Clip measures 2" x 4", exhibits slight toning, and displays a strong signature. Clip is corner mounted to larger (12.75" x 8.5") heavy paper (some chipping) that also presents a 19th century engraving of Longfellow. Mounted on reverse of larger paper are 3 cards presenting the autographs of 1.) Joseph Homan Manley (1842–1905) Maine senator, 2.) E. B. Hardenbergh, auditor general of Pennsylvania , and 3.) William S. Mathews, Pennsylvania senator.

Two page (1 leaf) letter regarding lack of ability of Longfellow to send some literary work for a Fair due to commencement and his busy schedule. He extends his regrets. Letter measures 7.25" x 4.5", exhibits slight toning, some ink bleeding and displays a lighter signature.
