Joe Mooney takes hard, cold, rigid, heavy gauge steel-thoroughly inanimate- and cuts, bends, welds, and wields to create forms that seem to be the antithesis of raw material. They emerge light, airy, pliant, inviting - and absolutely organic. In fact, that duality in the substance and its appearance is at the very essence of Joe Mooney's work. He perceives the two-ness in creation: male-female, rationale-spiritual, yin-yang, positive- negative.
